  1. Challenge your child’s academic abilities this summer To say that the world of academics is competitive is an understatement. These days, education has reached a point where every child needs to perform at their very best in order to keep up with the rest. In such a scenario, parents are often confused about what they can do differently to give their children a much-needed competitive advantage. When summertime rolls around, this becomes a more pressing issue since kids have a lot of free time on their hands and parents want them to use it constructively. Here are some ways in which you as a parent can ensure your child uses this time wisely while also having time to play around and have a blast. Summer academic programs are always a popular choice when it comes to adding value to your kid's education. However, as the saying goes - all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Many parents feel that while they want to constructively engage their children during the summers, they would like to stay away from outright academic programs and instead indulge in something more meaningful. For instance, a soccer summer camp is a great way to keep your kids busy during the vacations. Kids love playing games and this is a great way for them to get into a sport in an organized manner. Even if your child doesn't plan on pursuing it as a sport, soccer can teach them many essential soft skills like leadership, teamwork, patience, etc. On the other hand, it is also an excellent way for them to start building their social skills, make new friends and form new bonds. Many popular schools offer special summer soccer camps. Look around for one that seems to be a good fit for your child and give it a try this summer. If you would rather try something that outright teaches them a new skill, computer science camps are also a great idea. Kids these days are hooked to screens and no matter how hard you try to stop them, they will spend a lot of time interacting with phones, tablets, and laptops. Why not turn this passion for tech into a lucrative skill? Computer science camps will help them take a look underneath the hood of all the technology they take for granted and will help them think analytically and creatively. Coding camps are also extremely popular and your child could learn a lot from such experiences. Still not sure which of these would be right for your kid? Why not sign them up for something you feel they would love and let them try it out for one summer? They might end up loving these new and unique experiences while you can rest happy knowing that your kid is constructively engaged in something meaningful. You may also reach out to a counselor to understand what kind of skills your child lacks or needs sharpening. They will speak to your child, assess their performance academically, and identify which skills they need to target next.
