Kingdom had arrived! • Matthew 4:12-17 • 12When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— • 14to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: • 15“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, theWay of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,Galileeof the Gentiles— • 16the people living in darknesshaveseen a great light;onthose living in the land of the shadow of deathalight has dawned.” • 17From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

  5. Arrived With Power! • Matthew 4:23-25 • 23Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. • 24News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. • 25Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

  6. Arrived Powerfully Upside-Down • Matthew 5:3-12 He said: • 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. • 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. • 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. • 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. • 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. • 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. • 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. • 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. • 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
