  2. Purpose of the Sub-Group • To consider the issues raised in submissions from cross party group (CPG) members • To bring forward proposals on the future priorities and direction of the CPG

  4. Purpose of the CPG • Raise awareness of dyslexia • Promote good practice in education and the workplace • Support families affected by dyslexia

  5. ..................Other CP Groups • To provide a platform for parliamentarians to discuss...... • To provide opportunities for MSPs to learn more about the needs of .......and barriers...... • To increase awareness and raise the profile... • To put .....on the agenda of the Scottish Parliament

  6. Issues • Operation of Cross- Party Groups RULE 8 “To maintain and guarantee the Parliamentary nature of the CPG meetings, at least two Members of the group must be present at every meeting” • Theformat, timings and agenda of CPG meetings • Connecting with the right people

  7. key issues • Education – HMIe Report Teacher training Specialist teachers - assessments • Workplace - Public sector/ private sector practice Assessments Impact on performance, performance management, absenteeism Culture Impact of recession – downsizing!

  8. Issues continued • Health - mental health stress costs • Behaviour - Criminal justice lost opportunities

  9. Actions • Confirm purpose of the CPG • Hold 6 meetings per year • For example focused meetings on Education, Health, Workplace, Behaviour plus one other and an open meeting near the election • Consult MSPs to agree a set of dates and develop a calendar • Against the issues – identify any relevant legislation, Government reports etc and timetable the topic for discussion inviting MSPs

  10. Actions • Look at alternative ways of enabling existing members and others to continue to share information and network • Review progress in one year.

  11. Monitoring and Evaluation How do we know if we are making any difference in terms of the.. • Level of awareness of MSPs about dyslexia • MSPs knowledge of good practice • MSPs support to families affected by dyslexia

  12. Discussion points • Purpose of the CPG and timings of meetings • Adopting a thematic approach to meetings • Alternative methods of sharing information and networking
