  4. Differentiated Instruction IS • Something a teacher does in response to particular needs of particular human beings • Something a teacher does because it’s the thing to do IS NOT

  5. Differentiated Instruction IS • Something that happens when there is a need for it • Something that happens every day IS NOT

  6. Differentiated Instruction IS • For every student • Just for students with labels IS NOT

  7. Differentiated Instruction IS • At the core of effective planning • Something extra in the curriculum IS NOT

  8. Differentiated Instruction IS • Varied avenues to the same essential understandings • More problems, books, or questions for some students and fewer for others IS NOT

  9. Differentiated Instruction IS • Systematic attention to readiness, interest, and learning profile • All or mostly based on academic level IS NOT

  10. Differentiated Instruction IS • A balance of teacher choice and student choice • Synonymous with student choice IS NOT
