  6. Balance • The ability to maintain a steady position that does not tip.

  7. Body support • A device used to support body at work to reduce damage when lifting, moving and transferring patients

  8. Techniques to employ • Use stronger, larger muscles to perform tasks which require physical effort

  9. Lifting • When moving a heavy object, try to push or pull instead of lifting the item

  10. Lifting large weights • Get help if object feels too heavy to lift

  11. How to move • Lift in a smooth motion to prevent injury

  12. Positioning • Maintain good posture

  13. Be careful! • Avoid twisting the body

  14. Base of support • Bend knees, keep back straight, spread feet about one foot apart, use leg muscles when lifting
