Objective: • The aim of these lessons is to provide students with information on the clinics, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. • Learning Outcomes:At the end of the lessons, students should understand the following: • The invasive and noninvasive diagnostic methods in cardiology • History and physical examination in patients with cardiac complaints • ECG interpretation • Clinical characteristics and management of common heart diseases • Primary and secondary prevention in atherosclerosis • Cardiac involvement in systemic diseases and pregnancy • Contents • Management of acute and chronic ischemic heart diseases, management of heart failure, valvular heart diseases and infective endocarditis, diagnosis and treatment of common arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies and pericardial diseases, diagnosis and management of hypertension, diagnosis and management of hyperlipidemia and metabolic syndrome, cardiac involvement in systemic diseases.

Student Involvement/feed-back • Student feed-back form • In use since 2000 • Validated, anonymous, semi structured questionnaire featuring 6 items (Likert scale and qualitative/open-ended) • Evaluates quality of medical education at KOU Faculty of Medicine from the student’s point of view • Administered with every committee and clerkship • Results are collected in a database at the deanary • Results are used to re-evaluate curricular content and teaching, yearly

Student Involvement/feed-back II • Student involvement • Students in each phase elect a student phase representative • All student phase representatives elect a student faculty representative • The student faculty representative is invited to join faculty executive board meetings in matters regarding students’ affairs • Twice yearly all student representatives have feed-back meetings with the Dean and the members of the Assessment and Education Committee
