  • It is considered a classical text of Surrealism.

  • It is obscure. It states facts (no explanations). It was a way of documenting the surrealist experience. Focuses on the what not on the how nor on the why.

  • Understand and rely on biographical aspects, historical events, and topographical information ( street, signs, plan of Paris…etc.)
  • Act as a detective, a sociologist, a psychologist or a psychoanalyst as well as a literary critic.

The text has multiple meanings and many layered structure.
