  2. Research strongly supports parent involvement in schools. When parents are meaningfully involved in their child’s education, children achieve at a higher level and have more positive attitudes towards school. Yet meaningful parent involvement is only achieved when the school creates an environment that makes parents feel welcome, and reaches out to them in a variety of ways and opportunities. • At Rafael Hernandez School, we aim to create opportunities for our parents in each of the following components: • Rafael Hernandez School will take the following actions to involve parents under section 1118 of ESEA: • PTO Meetings SLC Meetings EPIC Workshops (Outside Agencies) • Rafael Hernandez School will take the following actions to involve parents under section 1116 of ESEA: • SLC Meetings PTO Meetings Workshops (In-house) • Rafael Hernandez School will hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I, Part A requirements and the right of parents to be involved in Title I, Part A programs. • Open House (5 to 7p.m.) • Rafael Hernandez School will provide parents of participating children information that includes a description and explanation of the school’s curriculum, forms of assessment and proficiency levels students are expected to meet by: • Open House Report Card Night (Twice Yearly) Monthly Workshops PTO meetings School Planner • Rafael Hernandez School will provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate in decisions about the education of their children by: • School Leadership Council Meetings (SLC) • Rafael Hernandez School will provide each parent an individual student report about the performance of their child on the state assessment in at least math, language arts, and reading by: • Report Cards Standardized Test Scores • Rafael Hernandez School will provide each parent timely notice when their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified. • All staff are highly qualified as per NCLB standards

Rafael Hernandez School will provide an understanding of topics described in this paragraph- • 1. state’s academic content standards, • 2. state’s student achievement standards, • 3. state and local academic assessments, • 4. how to monitor their child’s progress, and • 5. how to work with educators: • SLC Meetings PTO Meetings Workshops • Open House Parent/Teacher Conferences • NPS School Website “Just for the Kids” NJ Benchmark School Website • Rafael Hernandez School will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children by: • Parent Liaison Workshops Technical Workshops Monthly Workshops • Rafael Hernandez School will educate its teachers, pupil services personnel, principals, and other staff in how to communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, by • Faculty Meetings In-services • Rafael Hernandez School will coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs and activities by: • Workshops “Read Across America” • Rafael Hernandez School will take the following actions to ensure that information related to the school in an understandable manner by: • All communication is sent home in two languages (English/Spanish)
