  1. Target Audiences/Customersfor Ensemble notes by Lois Delcambre

  2. Target audience: owners of curated collections What they want from Ensemble (?): • more satisfied users of their content • more content of reasonable quality • (perhaps) users whose need are better met (than they are currently), e.g., by resources that complement their collection discovered through a broader search • (perhaps) metrics that track when ensemble users visit their site, download or use their content Note: if they end up with more users (who only pass through ensemble once, to first find the collection) they might be very happy – and we should be too.

  3. Target audience:Users of existing collections What they want from ensemble (?): • (perhaps) nothing • (perhaps) the ability to comment, rate, tag resources in the collection • (perhaps) the ability to issue broader searches beyond the collection • (perhaps) the ability to have their interaction tracked – in order to have rewards • (perhaps) cool tools (e.g., VKB or Walden’s paths) • (perhaps) social navigation

  4. Target audience:Contributors to collections What they want from Ensemble? • (perhaps) recognition for their contribution (through tracking/logging, badges, awards) • (perhaps) broad use of their contribution • (perhaps) discussion related to their contribution • (perhaps) easy access to other collections?

  5. Target Audience: Community members (who comment/rate/tag/discuss) What they want from Ensemble (?): • An active community of (interesting) peers that comment and discuss topics of interest • Easy to use tools/mechanisms to comment, discuss, rate, tag • (perhaps) metrics, badges, etc. that describe their contributions and activities • (perhaps) the ability to search for other comments • (perhaps) easy or seamless commenting, rating, tagging in the collection as well as in the broader context of ensemble

  6. Target Audience: University Faculty Members What they want from ensemble (?): • to find educational resources to use in their class such as: • (small size) examples, individual test or assignment questions, diagrams • (medium size) lectures, tests, assignments, simulations, visualizations, ? • (large size) a syllabus and all related materials including a set of lectures for a class, the set of reading assignments, the set of assignments, … • comments/discussion about strategies, books? • easy access to a place to contribute resources?

  7. Target Audience:High school (K-8?) Teachers? What they want from Ensemble (?):

  8. Target Audience:Students • University students? • High school students? • Independent learners? What do they want from Ensemble (?): • learning objects (just like professors)? • discussion forum (on topical material)? • ???

  9. Target Audience:Group conveners • Working groups (e.g., from SIGCSE) with some or all content public • Working groups (e.g., from the ACM Education Board) with perhaps some or all of their content private • Special interest groups – to discuss approaches to CS1 or compilers, or the database class … What do they want from Ensemble (?): • Nothing – Google docs is just fine • ensemble docs – (full featured but not from Google) • a web site – with their html content – hosted • an interactive web site (with content types, comments, rating, tags, …)
