  2. The Life of Giba Gilberto Godoy Filho was born in Londrina on December 23, 1976. His claim to fame is associated with his very successful career as a professional volleyball player. He began his volleyball career at a young age by playing for various clubs such as: Cocamar and Nipomed. He was very talented and moved up in the volleyball world after being scouted numerous times. After Giba moved to Italy he played for the Italian Top Division (A1) and later when they won the Italian Cup Giba received Most Valuable Player. Giba then moved back to Brazil in 2009 and has been playing for the National Team ever since! In 2003, Giba married former international Romanian-Brazilian volleyball player Cristina Pirv.

  3. Continued… Over the years Giba has sustained many different injuries. At the age of 11 he suffered from a severe injury to his left arm and was required to get 150 stitches to close the wound. One year later he recovered and insisted that he started playing volleyball. Giba participated in a number of other sports including soccer and basketball but decided he liked volleyball best. In the 2007 World Cup, Giba scored 127 points which ranked him 14th overall top scorer in the entire world, ever.

  5. Giba is a leader because of his performance both on and off the court. As team captain, he always gives his best effort and is a very driven and inspiring person. His constant mental strength and encouragement helps boost overall team confidence. He has great charisma and energy. In every day society, Giba is a great role model and a very respectable man. Even after losing a tough game Giba is able to be gracious and display sportsmanship. LEADERSHIP Giba has shown his great leadership qualities many different times. He took charge during the final match for their second Olympic win. They were down a few points and with his great mental attitude and determination Gibadominated the court and was able to bring back the teams confidence for an outstanding win.
