Geography • Russia is the largest nation in the world in geographical terms. Despite its size, much of the country lacks proper soils and climates for agriculture. • Moldova is a landlocked nation that is slightly larger than Maryland • Romania is located on the Black Sea and borders Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Serbia and Montenegro • Most of Ukraine terrain is fertile plains but the Black Sea’s coast is in the south and the Carpathians mountains are to the west • The Republic of Georgia is in southwestern Asia. It borders the Black Sea between Turkey and Russia
People • Georgian, Moldovan, Romanian, Russian and Ukrainian are all spoken in the Eastern Europe Territory • Though all were a part of the USSR under the communist government, each country has a distinct and interesting heritage
Issues • Since the fall of communism, all five nations have struggled economically and faced political instability • Air pollution has taken its toll on the region • Many areas face problems with alcoholism and drug addiction • The numbers of unemployed and underemployed persons are some of the highest in Europe

Salvation Army in Eastern Europe Territory • There are 53 corps (centers for worship and service) in the Eastern Europe Territory with: • Officers (pastors): 100 • Senior Soldiers (adult members): 2,300 • Junior Soldiers (members age 7-13): 586 • Adherents: 1,128
What are we doing? • Three people from The Salvation Army USA Central Territory are currently serving in the Eastern Europe Territory
What are we doing? • For the last two years the USA Central Territory has sent Summer Mission Teams to the Eastern Europe Territory
