Types of Policies University of North Carolina General Administration Policy: The Code/Policy Manual • Responsible: UNC General Administration University Policy • Responsible: Office of Legal Affairs • Policies most often originate via UNC General Administration, state or federal legislation, or other administrative action Academic Policy • Responsible: Faculty Council and/or Office of Academic Affairs • Policies most often originate via UNC Charlotte faculty and administration http://provost.uncc.edu/policies

Recent Policy/Procedure Changes • Withdrawals (Undergraduates) • “Undergraduate students may receive a grade of W for no more than 16 credit hours over their academic careers.” • Readmission of Former Students • Includes single Forgiveness Policy (replaces former Two-Year Rule and Associates Degree Rule) • Student Complaint Resolution Log • Units that receive complaints from currently enrolled students related to the mission must log the complaint and its resolution • Submission of Final Grades • Faculty Council: “Support the Provost in directing Department Chairs to include chronic failure to turn in course grades or chronic lateness in grade reporting in faculty annual evaluations.”

Recent Policy/ProcedureChanges, cont. • Academic Standing (formerly Academic Probation and Suspension) • Good Academic Standing: 1) cumulative GPA of 2.0 AND 2) cumulative ratio of earned to attempted credit hours of 2/3 • Good Academic Standing Warning (do not meet 2/3 ratio) • Registration • Add/drop period shortened to 8 calendar days • Tenured Faculty Performance Review • Requires a five-year plan and set of goals with related milestones

Recent Policy/ProcedureChanges, cont. • Guest Access Portal (GAP) • Provides access to FERPA-protected student education records • Allows students to choose: • to whom access is provided • what information can be seen • how long the access will last • Students create guest accounts and assign view only access to specific pieces of information Final grades Midterm grades Registration status and holds Financial aid awards Unofficial transcripts Payments/account summary Student information Student schedule • Does not allow access to student counseling, health or conduct records • Students create a passphrase for guests who wish to speak with the University

What to Watch For: Upcoming Policy/Procedure Changes • Course and Curriculum Management: Acalog/Curriculog • Electronic academic program and course approval system for creating, modifying, and accessing degree programs, courses, and catalog information • Curriculog is the only process for course/curriculum changes • Special Faculty Appointments • Outlines minimum procedural and eligibility requirements for appointment and promotion of faculty in special faculty appointments • Course Numbering and Cross Listing • To require enforcement at the department/college level • Department/School: Establishment, Name Change or Relocation • Outlines minimum guidelines
