  2. NEXRAD ProgramNEXT GENERATION WEATHER RADARWSR-88D • Joint effort of the United States Departments of Commerce (DOC), Defense (DOD), and Transportation (DOT) • Purpose: A national network of weather radar observing systems • Based on National Severe Storms Laboratory Doppler radar research

  3. Radar Operations Center Provides WSR-88D life-cycle support Tri-Agency Staffed & Funded Located in Norman with Other NOAA Offices

  4. 160+ WSR-88Ds deployed throughout the United States and at selected overseas locations.

ROC MISSION • Keep Operational Radars Running • Sustain Baseline Operational Radar System Capabilities • Improve Radar System Reliability and Integrate New Capabilities • Support NEXRAD Product Improvement Program • Address evolving operational requirements • Control life cycle costs • Address major functional subsystem obsolescence • Take advantage of new/improved radar and computer technology • Avoid/delay future wholesale radar replacement
