  3. Introduction Current Physician Order Entry System Data concerning current physician order entry system. Data concerning CPOE This slide will have a video embeded in it of the current physician order process. There will also be a clock at the bottom showing the time it takes to complete the order. (van Doormaal et al., 2010)

Recall of Prior Knowledge • Other Knowledge Needed for Training • Accessing Employee Website • Login and Account info • Accessing and navigating through programs • Steps in Current Order Process • Physician Writes order • Order given to HUC • HUC places order new order binder • HUC places order into computer when reached in binder. (More urgent orders get placed appropriately) • Paper is placed in ordered binder and placed on shelf • Order Is seen by nurse or other department and filled. • Nurse charts order has been completed Username: Employee Login Password:

  7. Scenario #1 • A patient needs an urgent CT scan. (Bell et al., 2008)

  8. Scenario #2 • The patient needs a sputum culture and reparatory consultation. (Bell et al., 2008)

  9. Practice • Scenario 1 Insert New Patient Data • Scenario 2 Order pain meds • Scenario 3 Place Transfer Orders • Scenario 4 Chart filled orders • Scenario 4 Schedule an MRI

  10. Assessment • The employees will be asked to complete three scenarios without error in 5 minutes. The instructor and super-user helpers will circulate throughout the room and moderate the assessment. (Hodell, 2011)

Handouts • Steps to Accessing CPOE • This handout will list the steps for the employees to access the CPOE system on a computing device. • Completion Certificate • The employees will receive a certificate once they have finished the training. If they receive CEUs then they will need this certificate. • There may not be many handouts required for this training. Since the volume of employees needing training is so great the amount of copies would be great also. • Information will be placed online for employees to access and print off at their convenience.
