  1. Aim By the end of the lesson we need to be able to answer this question: How do religious believers communicate with God? Recap… Beliefs about God that we have studied can be summed up using these numbers: 3 99 11 Explain! So…can we answer the question: ‘What is God like?’

  2. How do believers communicate with God? Can you think of any others?

  3. How do believers communicate with God? • You need to work in small groups. • Each group needs to nominate a scribe. • Each group needs big paper & a marker pen. • Write in the centre of your paper… Do people pray? Then, write one of these words in each of the corners of your paper… Why? Where? When? Who? • You have 10-15 minutes to think of lots of different answers to these questions. What do we all think? Add answers to your brainstorms Now… …As a group you need to write a paragraph that sums up your discussions & your brainstorm. Make sure you refer to Why? When? Where? & Who? – Draft your paragraph as a group on your large paper – You have 5 minutes. • This paragraph now needs to go into your books as an introduction to this topic.

  4. How do believers communicate with God? • Draw a table in the front of your books that looks like this: • “I want them to get to know Jesus, because hopefully they’ll be able to keep in touch with me in the future.” • “I find a lot of comfort & strength in knowing that I can talk to God and he is listening.” • “Say your prayers, take your vitamins & you will never go wrong.” • “My dad remembers me going to church with my mother, praying to God to make us win games. I got the Bible out when we were 1-0 down, saying ‘Jesus Christ, let us win this game.’ I still do the same thing now.” Can you fill in the table?

  5. What do we think? After today’s lesson, how many different ways can you answer the question… How do religious believers communicate with God? Homework • For your homework, you need to find out & write in your books: • 5 facts about how Muslims pray • 5 facts about how Catholics pray • For example…you could find out about how they pray, when they pray, where they pray or what they use to pray.
