  2. Hey Everybody! My name is Tek. I’m going to be your guide today! I’m a part of i-SAFE, and we are concerned with helping you to be safe online. We want you to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive or unlawful online behavior, and we hope to empower you to communicate what you learn from i-SAFE with others.

  3. The PlanFor this lesson you will be learning about cyber security – things like viruses and malicious code. Your activity will be to write a skit or scenario.

  4. Let’s Get Started With a Review! • Remember – we are all members of an online community when online. What are some of the benefits of an online community? • Think of some of the negative sides of an online community. • Today we will be learning about some of these negatives: online security issues such as viruses or malicious code. • What is your definition of a virus? • What is your definition of malicious code?.

  5. Virus A virus is a computer program that is designed to replicate by copying itself into the other programs stored in a computer. It may have a negative effect, such as causing a program to operate incorrectly or corrupting a computer's memory.

  6. Teacher’s choice: For a classroom with computers go back to the index and select the optional webpage activity: Lesson 2. When complete, conclude here with Slide 12. Otherwise – let’s continue on

  7. Now it’s time to learn a little about cyber security. All right – let’s get into groups. Your teacher will divide you up for our next activity.

  8. Group Directions • Each group should have activity pages7-3/7-4 and 7-5 • In your small groups, you should read and discuss the information on computer viruses and malicious code. • After you have read over and discussed the material, each group should write a skit or scenario on it.

  9. Scenario and Skit Writing Using what you have learned from your group work, your group will write a short scenario or skit on something to do with cyber security, which includes the presentation of a problem associated with the topic and an appropriate solution.

  10. Skit Presentations and Discussions Each group should present their short skits to the class. As a class, discuss the skits and what you have learned about viruses and malicious code.

  11. Everyone Finished? Good! I hope you’ve learned something today about using e-mail wisely. Now let’s see if we’re finished.

  12. How Do you Know When You’re Done? Have you: 1. Read the information sheets and developed a skit? 2. Shared your skit with your class? 3. Discussed as a class what you have learned about e-mail safety and malicious code? 4. Completed the self-esteem exercise?
