  1. Update of ECCO Consortium Activities: ECCO-GODAE • Funded under US NOPP-GODAE • Partners: JPL, MIT, NCEP, GFDL, Harvard. • Current activities: • Construction of Kalman-filter assimilation system based on MOM4 undertaken; to be used for initialization of ENSO forecast by NCEP. • Construction of adjoint for MOM4: tracer adjoint & parallel communication for adjoint completed; expect completion of momentum adjoint by summer 2006; to be used by GFDL and NCEP. • Improvement of SIO/MIT adjoint assimilation and transfer of infrastructure to GFDL.

  2. Update of ECCO Consortium Activities: ECCO-2 Funded under NASA Modeling and Assimilation Project Main Partners: MIT, JPL, GFDL, Harvard, GSFC. Goal: To obtain a truly global ocean data assimilation (including Arctic Ocean, with sea-ice model) at eddy-permitting resolution; focused on the requirements for climate application (intended to satisfy budget closure).
