  3. Ryan NYP “Spirit of Saint Louis” • What: 1st nonstop solo transatlantic flight. • Who: Charles A. Lindbergh • Where: Long Island to Paris • When: May 21, 1927 • “Lindbergh boom” – interest heightened for safe reliable mode of transportation.

  4. Amelia Earhart • 1st women to cross the Atlantic by air in June 1928 • 1st women to fly solo pilot in 1932 • Aboard the 1st flight that successfully flew from California to Hawaii in January of 1935. • Set off to circumnavigate the world in June 1937, but vanished in the Pacific.

  5. “Glamorous Glennis” • What: 1st aircraft to travel faster than the speed of sound. • Who: Capt. Charles E Yeager • Where: Altitude of 700 miles or 43,000 ft. • When: October 14, 1947
