This resource helps students learn to compare and contrast two subjects effectively using graphic organizers. First, we explore the concept of schema, which encompasses your thoughts, ideas, and pre-existing knowledge. By utilizing tools such as Venn diagrams and T-charts, students can identify similarities and differences between items, such as apples or whales and sharks. This process enhances critical thinking and aids in constructing new knowledge through organized information. Transition words are also introduced to help students connect their ideas smoothly.

Compare/Contrast Apples! 1. Label the Venn diagram (on the back): red apple, green apple, both. 2. Take a taste of the red apple. 3. Take a taste of the green apple. 4. Think about what the apples taste, feel, smell, and look like. What characteristics do they each have? 5. Write down 2 things the red and green apple have in common (compare). These ideas go in the middle of the Venn diagram. 6. Write down 2 things you think about ONLY the red apple. These ideas go on the “red apple” side of the Venn diagram. 7.
