What the University Committee on Use and Care of Animals (UCUCA) Office can/will do with eRAM… • Monitor and track timelines for review and approval to increase efficiency • Track the data from the different interactions we have with Principal Investigators • Allow us to use existing systems at the University • Create our application based on our Principal Investigator needs and our regulatory needs

Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Business Operations • Animal Ordering • Principal Investigators and labs will be able to place their orders for animals on-line • Track orders and delivery • Manage Animal Census • Maintain animal numbers by species, by room, by building • Principal Investigators and labs will be able to track their cages on a real-time basis • Billing and Invoicing • Principal Investigators will be able to access monthly ULAM invoices for animal orders, per diem and technical services • Upload ULAM invoice data into Mpathways/General Ledger

  8. Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Business Operations, cont. • Cost Accounting • Maintain cost data by cost center/species • Review expense data • Review and set-up of recharge rates for • Per Diem • Technical services • Enhanced reporting capability • In house support of work tool

  9. eRAM Project Guiding Principles • Minimize administrative burden on faculty and staff who prepare, review, and approve applications. • Provide necessary protocol and animal management data for investigator, unit, and institutional management, serving as the single source for protocol and animal management data. • Maintain a balance between minimum requirements needed to submit a protocol and desire for more institutional data.

  10. eRAM Project Guiding Principles, cont. • Maintain a balance between unit flexibility and institutional consistency with ease of use being the prevailing criterion. • Maintain compatibility with existing institutional systems. • Maintain a high level of sensitivity to the need to balance transparency of information against the need for the safety and security of investigators.
