  2. About Us Serving people in Kitchener, Waterloo, and the Waterloo Region, the Volunteer Action Centre believes in a community enhanced by volunteers who share their time, resources and talents. Programs: Recruitment and Referral of Volunteers Connecting people in the community with organizations that need volunteers. Extra support is available for those with special needs. Training and Consultation Connecting Voluntary Sector Professionals with training and expertise to expand capacity and strength community. Community Supports Connecting charities and other voluntary sector organizations, businesses and individuals with information and resources to develop and strength volunteer involvement.

  11. Want to do something different this fall? Be a puppeteer for children! Independent Living Centre is looking for people to use a variety of disabled and non-disabled puppets to perform scripted shows for children. Volunteers will be asked to learn the scripts and understand the issues present for disabled populations. Physical stamina, strong public speaking skills, solid English skills, and ability to work closely with others and accept feedback are required. Imagine being a senior trying to maintain your independence but in need of rides to medical appointments, nutritious meals, or some regular companionship. You can help make a difference in the life of a senior in as little as 2-3 hours once or twice a month. Over 12 different kinds of volunteer opportunities are available. Junior Achievement is looking for inspiring volunteers to teach our realistic and hands-on programs. Whether it’s educating about small business, entrepreneurship, finances, banking or staying in school, we have programs that appeal to everyone! The Food Bank of Waterloo Region needs you! Drivers and Driver Assistants are needed between September and December to help with scheduled food pick-ups. Drivers must have driving experience, be 25 or older with a G license and have a clean abstract. A DZ license is an asset. Warehouse Associates are also in demand to perform several tasks -customer service, preparing food orders, and other general warehouse duties. Only weekday positions available at this time. Some heavy lifting required. These are also year round positions that can be tailored to your schedule. Volunteers develop a warm and friendly relationship by going to a person’s home and participating in activities that help to maintain their dignity and build their self-esteem. This allows the caregiver to leave the home knowing that their loved one is safe in the care of a trained companion. Compassion, patience and a willingness to learn are required for this position. A number of Nutrition for Learning Committees are seeking individuals to provide guidance and plan for sustainable student nutrition programs in Waterloo Region, including providing accountability and support to staff via the Personnel Committee; overseeing appreciation of our team of 500+ volunteers as part of the Recognition Committee; or building community awareness about student nutrition programs with the Marketing Committee.
