  4. Expanded Notation Ex. 3,724 3 = thousands 7 = hundreds 2 = tens 4 = ones In expanded notation: 3 thousands + 7 hundreds + 2 tens + 4 ones When writing a number in “expanded notation”: Steps: 1. Name each digits place value 2. Place a “+” sign between each digit
