The Concept • To raise the level of medical care in Haiti • (one physician at a time) • To empower the Haitian Health Care professional to practice better medicine • To support the national health system with learning material, medications and equipment • To cooperate with the local resources so that our impact may last beyond our physical stay in the country

Achievements • Creation of the Residents Library • Distribution of oral Hydrating solution, IV fluids and antibiotics at the peak of the Cholera epidemic • EKG and Echocardiography courses • Two Seminars on Diabetes mellitus • Grant to provide Insulin to Type 1 Diabetics for 1 year • Advanced Trauma Management Training • Purchase of manikins for life support training • More than 150 lectures to Surgery, Medicine, Urology, Pediatrics, Ob/GYN, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics residents

Achievements • Large supply of medications at each visit • (HTN, DM, Asthma, PUD antibiotics, etc…) • Donation of 3 EKG machines, 1 Defibrillator, 1 Doppler machine and > 30 glucometers • Shipping of several tons of medical material and equipment from North Shore/LIJ Health System • Internet Access for two years (P. Nacier) • Observership at Brooklyn Hospital (P. Nacier and Simact)

Impact • Recognition of AMHE as a significant player and a Partner in the Field of Health Care in Haiti • News media • Greater participation of Non Haitian Physicians and other Health care professionals in the effort with the AMHE concept • Possible creation of regular residency rotations in Haiti • Coalescence and integration of the multiple efforts initiated by foreign groups in Haiti
