  3. A THIRD RACE We are a newly created race. We are to be different. put off your old self…put on the new self

  4. Ephesians 5:1,2 1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Walk in love

  5. Ephesians 5:8-14 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.14 This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper,     rise from the dead,     and Christ will shine on you.” Walk in light

  6. As Christ loved (Mimic) - Which is to forgive - Because we are sons - Because we are light What does LIGHT mean? Walk in Love (Eph 5) Truth ⇒ Holiness Ignorance ⇒ Evil

  7. Truth Proverbs 6:23 "For the commandment is a lamp and the law is light." Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."  II Corinthians 4:6 "God commanded the light to shine out of darkness. The light has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."  Eph 4:18 “They are darkened in their understanding” Light and Darkness Ignorance

  8. Holiness Eph 5:8 Live as children of light Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, Romans 13:12,13 "So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.  Light and Darkness Evil

  9. Ephesians 5:9 Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)  Light walkers (knowledge and behavior) • Goodness – • Beautiful, free from defects • Useful • Agathos - Moral excellence that is active in behalf of others. Touching others with goodness. • Righteousness – True to God in His call to holiness • Truth - integrity, honesty, reliability, trustworthiness Others God Self

  10. 1 John 5 5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.  7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. Light and Darkness

  11. Rationalizing Sin Not calling sin, sin 1 John 1:8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  • Renaming it – • human frailty, bad tendencies, weakness, hereditary fault, • しょうがない、失敗した、残念な • Blame it on circumstance • I was tired; pressure; others

  12. Rationalizing Sin Accusing God 1 John 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. • Basic Relationship of the Christian (Living by Faith) Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. • We don’t like our circumstances

  13. Rationalizing Sin 1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
