Major Laws • National Environmental Policy Act • Requires federal government agencies to consider environmental impact of their actions • Environmental Assessments • Environmental Impact Statements • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act • Superfund to clean up hazardous waste sites, accidents, spills and emergency releases of pollutants and contaminants

Major Laws (continued) • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act • Regulates the generation, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste • Requires clean up • Complex permit program • Underground Storage Tank Regulations • Operating, reporting, financial assurance & clean up obligations • Clean Air Act • Regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources • Eleven titles
