  4. Scheduling materials: The 2016-2017 Program of Studies is available onlineat www.svsd.net (select Academics, then Program of Studies, then Grades 9-12). Courses can be viewed by plan, list, or catalog. • Ninth grade registration form (yellow) • Tenth grade registration form (blue) • Scheduling presentation is available at www.svsd.net(select IHS, then Guidance).

  5. SV SV Credits Every class you take at Seneca Valley has a specific credit value. Semester course .5 credit Full year course 1.0 credit Full year course with lab 1.4 credit To earn credit, you must pass the class with a 60% “D” or higher (final average).

  7. KEYSTONE EXAMS • Students must attain a score of Advanced or Proficient on the Biology, Algebra 1, and Literature end of course examsas per district and state requirements.

Review the Academically Advanced Courses in the Program of Studies Weighted Courses • AP (0.35 weight) • CHS (0.25 weight) • Honors (0.125 weight) • Weight is an add-on to the base QPA • Weight formula includes a divisor that increases as opportunities to take weight increases – allows for a fair QPA distribution for all students • Select weighted courses carefully to ensure a consistent add-on weight advantage • Academically Advanced course information available on the Program of Studies

  10. 9th Grade English • English 9 • Honors English 9 (requires a 90% or better in English 8 or an 80% in Honors English 8, teacher recommendation and successful completion of summer reading and writing assignments) Remember to have your current teacher sign your registration form!

  11. 9th GradeSocial Studies • U.S. History 1 (1776-1860) U.S. History 2 (1860-1914) • Honors U.S. History 1 (1776-1860) Honors U.S. History 2 (1860-1914) The prerequisites for Honors History are a 90% in 8th grade Social Studies and recommendations from the current Social Studies and English teachers.

Corequisite of Principles of Geometry, Geometry, Honors Geometry or higher.

Completing the planning guide • Write all classes taken in 9th grade. • Do not include study hall or lunch. • Write credit value for each class. 0.5 credit for semester (half year) classes 1.0 credit for full year classes 1.4 credits for lab classes • Add all credits taken and place total in the bottom space (7 minimum).

Both Honors and A.P. options require English and History teacher recommendations.

The elective courses will help you discover areas of interest for future electives, hobbies, and careers. • The Program of Studies shows the relation between the 17 Seneca Valley career pathways and Seneca Valley courses. • See your counselor for further help in determining your future options. What electives should I take?

  25. If you are taking Biology, Honors Biology, Chemistry or Honors Chemistry, write “lab/study hall” in the bottom space for both semesters.

  26. If you are taking Principles of Biology 1 and 2 or Principles of Chemistry 1 and 2 and want a study hall, write “study hall” in the bottom space.

  27. If you are taking Principles of Biology 1 and 2 or Principles of Chemistry 1 and 2 and want no study halls, complete all spaces with courses.

Math/English/Biology Labs Based on individual performances on standardized tests, an additional English, biology and/or math lab period may be added to your schedule in place of an elective or study hall. Placement will be determined by student performance on standardized assessments, as determined by the school district.

  29. World Language World language is often needed for college admission. Most colleges require 2-3 years on the high school transcript. Colleges vary on whether they will count the 8th grade world language toward their entrance requirements. Language taken in grade 8 will be reflected on an SV transcript. Honors level courses in World Language are available for 2nd and 3rd year students. Please consult your current teacher and the Program of Studies for prerequisites.

SV The Academy of Choice • Students may enroll in cyber courses that provide credit towards graduation through: • Acceleration Courses Credit Recovery Courses • Courses are available as: • Cyber only Cyber Blended only Cyber or Cyber Blended • Students may be enrolled: • Full-time onsite Full-time at home • Supplement to traditional classes.

  33. Cyber Registration Process: During 2016-2017 school year: List course on registration form; complete the online cyber application AFTER June 3, 2016*. During summer of 2016: Complete online cyber SUMMER application*. *Link: http://www.svsd.net/domain/1100 Note: Cyber grades are listed on the transcript and report card. Acceleration courses receive a letter grade/percentage and will calculate into the QPA for the upcoming school year. Credit recovery courses will receive a pass/fail grade, will not calculate into the QPA, and will be listed on the current year’s transcript.

Engineering Certification Program (ECP) • ECP provides comprehensive knowledge and understanding of standards within the engineering field. • No specific sequence of courses is necessary to achieve ECP Certificate. Advanced Math and Science courses recommended Technology Education courses recommended • Cyber courses are available. • Engineering focused Graduation Project is required. • Additional information and course recommendations are available on the ECP link (IHS page under site shortcuts)

Reminders for the BCAVTS Program • If you are interested in BCAVTS, write your selected BCAVTS program and course number in the designated portion of your form and see your school counselor. • BCAVTS programs have limited enrollment. You must return the BCAVTS application with your schedule. COLLEGIATE SPORTS ELIGIBILITY • Register early within the junior year • Must register for division I or II • Specific guidelines for QPA, college entrance exams, and core course requirements. • Online registration • Schools vary • SV approved course list as well as NCAA Quick Reference Sheet are available at SHS Guidance website.

More reminders… • Pay close attention to the descriptions in the Program of Studies (course numbers, prerequisites, length, grade level). • The course listing contains a comprehensive list of all classes offered for the 2016-2017 school year. • Don’t forget to complete substitute courses on your form! • Signatures needed: core academic areas, 2nd and 3rd year of a world language, some performing arts courses

  40. Schedule Changes Course request changes can be made through the end of this school year (June 3, 2016). Teachers may make recommendation changes based on student performance during the second semester of this school year. An add/drop period at the beginning of the next school year is allotted.

  41. Ninth Grade Registration Pick-Up Students will be entering their course selections into the computer and turning their schedule forms in according to the following schedule: Tuesday, February 16 Falcons—Mr. McCracken Hawks—Mr. O’Shea Wednesday, February 17 Condors—Mrs. Cenna Owls—Mr. Martin Thursday, February 18 Eagles—Mr. Koromaus Please have your schedule completed and ready to turn in on that date.

  42. Registration Pick-Up by English classes Tuesday, February 9 Mihalik Wednesday, February 10 Smith, Zorich Thursday, February 11 Zaso Rooms 109 and 113 Students will input schedule requests and submit completed forms.
