  1. WSP's HWWS Results ArchitectureTranslating our Experiences into a Tested Results Framework to Share with Others

  2. HWWS Results Framework Session Objective of the Session • Based on our experiences, define our model for a HWWS Results Framework that we can all agree on and share with others as a possible model

  3. HWWS Results Framework Session How will we achieve this? • Review our thinking back in 2006/7 when we developed the RF • Define how we would do it differently today based on what we know now • Develop a results chain that we can all agree on and share with our partners

  4. HWWS Results Framework Session This thinking was captured in the HWWS Results Chain HWWS Goal: Reduced diarrheal disease in young children and increased productivity in households with young children. HWWS PDO: Stimulate and sustain recommended handwashing behavior in 5.4 million people in 4 countries in 4 years. Component 1: Programming Large-scale HW programs designed and implemented. Component 2: EE Increased capacity to sustain large-scale HW programs. Component 3: Learning Enhanced learning about effective approaches to scaling up & sustaining HWWS programs. Component 4: M&E Strengthen knowledge of effectiveness of large scale HWWS programs.

  5. HWWS Results Framework And in the HWWS Results Framework

  6. HWWS Results Framework Session The purpose of the Results Framework for any project is to… • Clearly articulate the causal logic of the project; • Lay out the road map for the project, defining where we want to go and how we think we can get there; • Define the results we are responsible for delivering (Components/Outputs) and those to which we can only contribute (PDO, Goal); • Provide means by which we can measure progress towards targets through performance indicators; • Create a common language between the project team and key stakeholders.

  7. HWWS Results Framework Session Questions (in small groups):Did the HWWS Results Framework serve these purposes well? (articulate causal logic; roadmap for direction; define results we're responsible for, clear indicators to measure)How and/or how not? What were the challenges you faced when working with the RF?

  8. HWWS Results Framework Session Given our experiences with the current HWWS RF, what would the "WSP tested" Results Chain for HWWS be? • Who is our client and how do we want them to change? This defines our Intermediate Outcome. • What will we deliver as a result of our project? These define the outputs. • What are the longer term benefits that we hope will result from the project? These define the Outcome and Impact of the project. • Are we aligned with WSP’s Results Architecture?

  9. WSP’s Country Results Chain WSP Country Impact: Household health and socio-economic status of poor people improved. WSP Country Outcome: Use of improved water supply and sanitation services, and hygiene practices by poor people increased. WSP Country Intermediate Outcome: Governments scale up improved water supply and sanitation services and hygiene programs for poor people. Country Output Country Output Country Output Country Output Activities

  10. What would the country outputs look like?

  11. HWWS Results Framework Session Given our experiences with the current performance indicators, what would the "WSP tested" performance indicators at Output and Intermediate Outcome level be?
