  1. Why is Matcha Green Tea Special?

  2. Matcha tea is green tea. It comes from the same plant as other green teas, and even most black teas. So what makes the matcha green tea we use to make matcha Fulham so special? It’s all down to how – and where – the tea is grown. The highest quality matcha – the only matcha we use at Pearl Lemon Cafe – is only grown in certain regions of Japan. Japan is a very diversified nation, therefore not all of its soil or geographic conditions are ideal for growing the best matcha powder.

  3. In reality, matcha tea was “created” in Uji, a small village close to Kyoto. The best matcha tea you’ve ever tasted is grown in Uji thanks to its geographic features, including its altitude, fertile soil, and more. It’s the same as consuming Champagne that wasn’t made in Champagne. With a distinct terroir and unique flavor, Uji Matcha is the actual birthplace of Matcha. What is now referred to as ceremonial grade matcha in the West is organic matcha green tea powder from Uji.

  4. Uji matcha spends most of its life in the shade, and it’s this active shading that boosts the levels of phytochemicals found in it, and thus the number of antioxidants. It also tastes better as only the best leaves are stone ground into matcha – poor quality leaves taste very bitter – and it’s also the greenest match of all, a big indicator of superior quality and taste.

  5. How is Matcha Served? When and if you head to our North End Road coffee shop, you’ll find that we make use of matcha in lots of different ways. You can drink it as a hot tea, as an iced tea, or – and this is the most popular choice by far with our customers – as a creamy, refreshing matcha latte. If you are looking for a coffee alternative on a hot day that will still give you a nice buzz, matcha Fulham is a great choice. And if your Insta feed is looking a bit sad? Snapping a picture of your bright green matcha latte before you drink it will certainly liven it up!

  6. We even offer our matcha green tea powders for sale to those who can’t make it to our coffee shop but want to experience the best matcha for themselves. Using our matcha green tea powders, you can replicate many of the matcha Fulham beverages we’ve perfected, and we’ll even include a handy instruction book that will show you how! And did we mention you can even add matcha green tea powder to your baking? We do, and there are lots of good reasons you should too. Ready to experience the best matcha Fulham? Stop by our North End Road coffee shop and allow our friendly baristas to serve up your new favourite drink, or contact us to find out how you can buy the highest quality matcha green tea powders they use to make it online.

  7. What is Matcha? If you’re not familiar with it yet, matcha is a Japanese green tea powder made from finely powdered dried tea leaves. Due to the high chlorophyll content in the leaves, it has an earthy flavor and a striking green color. Although it has long been a part of traditional Japanese tea rituals, its popularity in the UK has only recently grown as a result of the talk about its health advantages as well as its fun green color and unique taste.

  8. Why is matcha considered so healthy? Matcha tea offers even more antioxidants than green tea, which is already well known for having a high level of the stuff. This is because the leaves in other varieties of green tea are steeped in hot water and then thrown away. The powder for matcha is prepared by whisking it into hot water or milk. As a result, you ingest the entire leaf when drinking tea, so you get a lot more of all those healthy antioxidants in every cup of matcha Fulham you consume.

  9. The Power of Matcha When people talk about the health benefits of matcha they go on about antioxidants a LOT. But why should you care? Cell membranes and other components, such as cellular proteins, lipids, and DNA, are harmed by the process of oxidation in the human body. When oxygen is broken down, it produces unstable molecules known as “free radicals” that rob other molecules of their electrons and harm DNA and other organisms.
