  2. There Israel encamped before the mountain, while Moses went up to God

  3. Kingdom of Priests • As the consecrated priests would stand between God and His people, so the people of Israel would act as priests to the world, • They were set aside by God for service, witness, and prayer • Israel would be a priest to all the nations of the world.

  4. And Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord. And the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever. (19:8)

  5. And you shall set limits for the people all around, saying… Take care not to go up into the mountain or touch the edge of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall be put to death. (19:12)

  6. The 10 Commandments/Words • Though traditionally known as the Ten Commandments, the term “commandments” occurs only in v. 6 • The list proclaim both LAW and GOSPEL • According to the Jewish Mishnah, reciting the 10 Commandments was a significant feature of temple liturgy.

When men fight together and hit a pregnant woman, so that she gives premature birth, but there is no harm, the one who hit here must pay a fine…But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. Exodus 21:22 - 24

  10. You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit…You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor…and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked (Exodus 23:1 – 3,6 -7)

  11. I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possessed the land. You shall make no covenant with them and their gods. But completely remove them so that you do not sin. (23:29 – 22)

  13. Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. Exodus 24:17 – 18

  14. The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive a contribution for me…and let them make a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it. (Exodus 25:1 – 2; 8 - 9)

  15. And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony I shall give you. There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark…I will speak with you about all that I will give you and command you. Exodus 25:21-22
