  1. Agenda Today • Put word wall paper in your notebook/notes section (2m) • Go over new procedures (5m) • Go over participation points (10m) • Scavenger Hunt English Renaissance (20m) • Exit slip- Word of the day is Accrue. Write a sentence using “accrue”. (5m) EQ of the day: How can I effectively discuss texts and topics with certain people?

  2. This Quarter… • You will be seated with specific groups and will work with them on the assignments • Each group will have a group leader that is responsible for grading their groups bellworks and helping me with participation points. In addition, they are responsible for keeping the group on task at all times. • Group leaders will change randomly so everyone has a chance. • You will have a notebook test at some point this quarter. Make sure you are keeping notes and assignments in there. • Your exit slips will be word wall word assignments. From now on, you are to keep them on the same page in your notebook and I will collect them after every 5 (like bellwork, but I am actually taking them up) • Bellwork will be checked after every 5 by group leaders, but the grades will not go in until after every 10.

  3. Participation Points • Since there has been an excessive amount of phone use, headphones and sleeping, this quarter we will be doing participation points. • Everyday, you will be judged based off of how well you are participating, responding, following along, etc. • Group leaders may be asked how/what each member did that day if the teacher is too busy helping people to notice • A rubric will be posted on the info board, but here is the general idea: • 5 points possible a day= 2 100 point grades • 5=A, 4=B, 3=C, 2=D, 1=F

  4. How to get an “A” • All participation points are based on Reading along, discussion and participation, and writing and assignments. • To get an A in reading section: must have book opened to the right page, be following along the whole time and read when called on or volunteer. • A in the Discussion section: Volunteers to answer questions (or responds when called on), answers are detailed and thought provoking • A in Assignments section: Responds and works hard during assignments, does not get distracted by others , assignments are done to full or extra completion

  5. How to get a “B” • Reading: Has book open and follows along most of the time. Reads aloud if asked. • Discussion: Answers when called on; answers are clear and somewhat detailed. • Assignments: Responds and works diligently. Mostly ignores distractions, assignments done to completion

  6. To get a “C” • Reading: Has book open and is reading for the most part, but is struggling to follow along • Discussion: Student answers when called on but answers are short- however they are correct • Assignments: Works during assignment but may be distracted. May have very short answers or not complete the full assignment

  7. How to get a “D” • Reading: Book is open but on wrong page • Discussion: Answers when called on but answers may be short, unclear or incorrect • Assignments: Student may refuse to complete assignment or states that they will do it at home (even though they have time in class). Or…student copies from another student on an assignment that is individual.

  8. How to get an “F” • Reading: Student is asleep or refuses to open the book • Discussion: Student is asleep or refuses to answer • Assignments: Asleep or refuses to do assignment
