  2. What is Prayer? Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the heart or soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God has promised, or according to His Word, for the good of the church, with submission in faith to the will of God - John Bunyan

  3. The Lord’s Pattern of PrayerMatthew 6:9-13 “Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 'Give us this day our daily bread. 12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”

  10. Confidence in prayer – 1 John 5:14-15 I can properly pray about anything if I apply what scripture says about it.

  11. Marriage – Who to Marry? Prov. 19:14 “a prudent wife is from the Lord” Prov. 14:1 “a wise woman builds her house” Prov. 12:4 “a virtuous woman is the crown of her husband” Prov. 31:10-31 - The marks of a virtuous woman Prov. 21:9,19 - Do not marry a contentious woman 1 Cor. 6:9,18; 7:1 - No premarital sex 2 Cor. 6:14 - Do not be bound to an unbeliever Malachi 2:16 - God hates divorce Psalm 15 - The marks of a godly man

Marriage – Role of the Husband 1 Tim. 5:8 - Must provide for family Eph. 5:25-33 - Love, cherish and nurture wife, strive in purity 1 Pet. 3:7 - Live with wife in an understanding way Matt. 5:28 - Do not commit adultery Matt. 5:32 - Divorce increases adultery 1 Cor. 7:5 - Do not deprive wife, she owns the husband

  13. Marriage – Role of the Wife Eph. 5:22-24,33 - Submit and respect her husband 1 Pet. 3:1-7 - Win husband without a word by behavior - chaste, respectful, gentle, quiet spirit Matt. 19:18 - Do not commit adultery 1 Cor. 7:5 - Do not deprive husband, he owns the wife

Children - Responsibilities Eph. 6:1-3 - Obey parents, honor parents Prov. 1:8 - Heed instruction of parents Duet. 21:18-21 - they should not be stubborn or rebellious Prov. 20:20 - They should not curse parents Exod. 21:15 - They are not to strike parents 1 Tim. 3:4,5; Titus 1:6 - Children characterized by rebellion disqualify their dad from church leadership.

Parents - Responsibilities Ephesians 6:4 - “do not provoke children to anger” Colossians 3:21- “do not exasperate your children” Ephesians 6:4 - raise in “the nurture and admonition of the Lord” Deuteronomy 6:6 - Teach children about God at all times Proverbs 13:24; 19:18; 22:15; 29:15 - Discipline the child properly.

Communication Matt. 5:23-24 - Reconcile with your brother Eph. 4:15 - Speak truth in love Eph. 4:29 - Speak what is edifying for the need of the moment Phil. 2:14 - Do all without grumbling or disputing James 1:19 - Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger Proverbs 15:1 - A gentle answer turns away wrath

  17. Friends– be a true friend, pick wisely Job 6:14 – Friends are kind to the despairing. Prov. 11:13 - Be trustworthy, do not reveal secrets Prov. 17:17 - A friend loves at all times Prov. 22:24 – Do not associate with angry man lest you learn his ways Prov. 27:6 - Faithful are the wounds of a friend Prov. 27:9 - A man’s counsel is sweet to his friend Prov. 27:10 - Do not forsake your friend Prov. 27:17 - Iron sharpens Iron, so one man another Rom. 12:10 - Be devoted to one another Rom. 12:15 - Rejoice & weep with those who do Rom. 12:16 - Be of same mind Prov. 13:20 - Walk with wise/fool & become wise/fool

  18. Job / Career Col. 3:23 - Do work heartily, as for the Lord 2 Thess. 3:11-12 - Work, not undisciplined life or busybody Colossians 3:9 - Do not lie Philippians 1:27 - Conduct in manner worthy of Christ Matthew 5:44 - Pray for those who persecute you James 1:27 - Keep unstained by the world

  19. Investments– following Godly wisdom Prov. 10:2 - Ill gotten gains do not profit Prov. 11:15 - If surety for a stranger º suffering Prov. 11:25 - The generous man will prosper Prov. 11:28 – He who trust in riches will fall; the righteous will flourish Prov. 13:22 – The good man leaves an inheritance for grandchildren Prov. 23:4 - Do not weary yourself to gain wealth Prov. 20:18 - Prepare plans by consultation Matt. 22:21 – Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's 2 Cor 9:7 - God loves a cheerful giver Mt 6:19 - Do not lay up treasures on the earth

Leisure – Life is not about my pleasure 1 John 2:15-17 - Do not love world & its things Prov. 20:1 - Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, he who is intoxicated is not wise 1 Cor. 6:12 - All things lawful, not profitable, Do not be mastered by anything. 1 Cor. 6:18 - Flee immorality 2 Tim. 2:4 - Soldier is not to be entangled by world's affairs 2 Tim. 2:22 - Flee youthful lusts Heb. 12:1 - Lay aside every encumbrances of sin - run with endurance 1 Peter 1:15 - Be holy in all behavior

  21. Temptation – Trust in God & do your part James 1:5 - God will give us wisdom 1 Cor. 10:13 - It will not be too much, God will provide a way of escape. Col. 3:5 - We must mortify our bodies Ephesians 6:10-18 - We must put on the whole armor of God 1 John 2:15-17 – Do not love the world Hebrews 4:15 - Christ is a sympathetic High priest

  22. Health 2 Cor 1:4 - Comfort with Comfort John 11:4; Job - Sickness can be for God's glory 1 Cor. 6:20 - Glorify God in your Body

Grief / Dying– Comfort with hope 1 Thess. 4:14-18 - Do not grieve as those with no hope Phil. 1:21 - To live is Christ, to die is gain 2 Cor.1:4 - God comforts us in all our affliction 2 Cor. 12:9 - My grace is sufficient Psalm 55:22 - Cast your burden on the Lord & He will sustain Psalm 34:17-18 - The righteous cry and the Lord hears, He is near the broken hearted and saves those crushed in spirit
