  1. The consequences of positive and negative images for Roma and Sinti

  2. Introduction Our main subject is about the Roma and Sinti people. The Sinti and Roma people are people in Europe who always have been a part of the European civilization, but they never had their own country or state • (you can choose your image here)

  3. AntiZiganism • For many centuries people, who were different suffered because of majority. Jews, native American, black people, gypsies - most of them suffered from stereotypes, which were created by white people. Of course, in every social group will always be thieves, rapists, killers, robbers, burglars, but people still judge all of them as an whole community, because of stereotypes and that attitude will barely change in nearest future. One of the most significant example is antiziganism – the thousand years of hostility and racism, directed at the Romani community.

  4. Stereotypes of Roma and Sinti Stereotypes of Romani People • frozen images people have in order to explain things they don’t really know • created and passed on by families, films, press headline and newspapers • give a unflexible picture about how Romani People are • define Romani People as a group with special characteristics • leave no space for real contact with the individual person • based on these stereotypes antiziganism can increase • question your mind about stereotypes! • (you can choose your image here)

  5. Psychological consequences Gap between civil society and Roma and Sinti > distrust. • · Lack of acceptance • · Prejudices, stereotyping • · Unequal treatment Roma and Sinti: • · Don’t see themselves as civilian people > isolation of civil society • · Experience disadvantages in participating in labor and education • · Accept discrimination • · Lack of trust in themselves Conclusion: isolation, destructive behavior and hiding from their identity

  6. Social economic consequences • ``Roma and Sinti people lack access to government services and health care, good-quality housing and schools, and suffer from high rates of unemployment and discrimination on the labor market. For the Eastern European Roma, like Roma in other parts of Europe, these problems are partly rooted in the "otherness" of their lifestyle and values. Disagreements and fighting between Roma clans and organizations have not helped. ``

  7. Improving social inclusion of Roma and Sinti Because of the centuries-old societal prejudice, intolerance, and pervasive discrimination that Roma and Sinti continue to face, they experience problems in accessing rights and services in most areas of life and are poorly represented in the public and political life of their societies • (you can choose your image here)
