Cube Roots Math notebook, calculator & pencil
Last Week • Last week we focused on factoring the square roots of numbers and solving equations with square roots • Today, we will be focusing on cube roots. • Can any one tell me what a “cube root” is?
Square Roots • With square roots we took “pairs out” • The opposite of a square root is a number “squared” • Example: 2 squared is equal to √4
Cube Roots • When factoring with square roots our objective was to find “pairs” to pull out, our objective with cube roots is to pull what out? • This is the special symbol that means "cube root", it is the "radical“ symbol (used for square roots) with a little three to mean cube root.
Let’s Practice • What is the cubed root of 8 • What is the cubed root of 27
Practice • Factoring the following numbers to find the cubed root • Cubed root of 64 • Cubed root of 125 • Cubed root of 216
Practice • Cubed root of 96 • Cubed root of 120 • Cubed root of 1331
