  1. Area and Perimeter By Christine Berg Edited by V T Hamilton

  2. Perimeter The sum of the lengths of all sides of the figure

  3. Area The number of square units inside a figure

  4. Calculating Area

  5. Area Abbreviations: A = Area b = base h = height

  6. Rectangle To find the area multiply the length of the base times the height

  7. Rectangle A = bh

  8. Parallelogram Draw a rectangle on graph paper. Cut off a triangle on one side and add it to the other. 1 2 3

  9. Parallelogram The rectangle becomes a parallelogram so the formula is the same as for a rectangle

  10. Triangle The area of a triangle is one half of the length of the base times the height

  11. Triangle Area of the square is 4 times 4 or 16 sq. in. Area of the triangle is one-half 16, or 8 sq.in. A = 1/2 bh A = 1/2 (4)(4) A = 8 sq. in. 4in 4in
