Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT). PURPOSEAuthorizes grants to meet the costs of traineeships that will pay allor part of the costs of the tuition, books, and fees of the program ofnurse anesthesia, and the reasonable living expenses.Applicants must provide registered nurses with full-time nurseanesthetist education and have evidence of accreditationstatus from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists(AANA) Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse AnesthesiaEducational Programs.23

Under Title VIII of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, as amended by Subtitle B, the Nursing Education and Practice Improvement Act of 1998 of P.L. 105-392, section 811 (f) and section 841 (2)(A) and (B), authorizes grants to meet the costs of traineeships that will pay all or part of the costs of the tuition, books, and fees of the program of nurse anesthesia and the reasonable living expenses of the licensed registered nurse during the period for which the traineeship is provided. The Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program is a formula program.Under Title VIII of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, as amended by Subtitle B, the Nursing Education and Practice Improvement Act of 1998 of P.L. 105-392, section 811 (f) and section 841 (2)(A) and (B), authorizes grants to meet the costs of traineeships that will pay all or part of the costs of the tuition, books, and fees of the program of nurse anesthesia and the reasonable living expenses of the licensed registered nurse during the period for which the traineeship is provided. The Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program is a formula program.

    3. Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Use of Grant Funds Stipends (maximum of $8,800 per student) Full tuition and fees Required textbooks (up to $500 per trainee) Books for library or personal/professional use may not be charged to the grant. Trainee travel not allowable

    4. Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Eligible Students Enrolled at the institution in an eligible advanced education nursing program Enrolled full-time Citizen of the United States, a non-citizen national, or foreign national who possesses a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States Eligible for national nursing certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) following graduation

    5. Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Statutory Funding Preference Preference will be given to qualified applicants that demonstrate a: High rate of graduates accepting positions in medically underserved areas Minimum of 40% of graduates who spend at least 50% of work time in these areas

Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Special Consideration Special consideration will be given to eligible applicants who: will use the award to train advanced education nurses who will practice in Health Profession Shortage Areas (HPSAs) provide applicant assurance meet a minimum 10% of students who sign commitments to practice in HPSAs after graduation As provided in section 811 (f)(3) of the PHS Act, a special consideration will be applied to eligible entities that agree to expend the award to train advanced education nurses who will practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) designated under section 332. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who provide a statement that a minimum of ten (10) percent of the students have signed commitments to practice in HPSAs after graduation, contingent to receiving some type of student assistance. Students who have signed such agreements are subject to the terms and conditions as identified by the student assistance programs in the school.As provided in section 811 (f)(3) of the PHS Act, a special consideration will be applied to eligible entities that agree to expend the award to train advanced education nurses who will practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) designated under section 332. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who provide a statement that a minimum of ten (10) percent of the students have signed commitments to practice in HPSAs after graduation, contingent to receiving some type of student assistance.
