Lokmanya Medical Research Centre • LOKMANYA MEDICAL RESEARCH CENTRE (L.M.R.C.) was established in the year 1984-85 • To undertake scientific research in the area of Bio Medical Sciences • To establish, operate, promote, run, maintain, manage institutions engaged in advancement of research pertaining to Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Research in Indigenous Medicinal plants. • To give advise on publish or otherwise promote utilization of research results medical fields. • To promote develop and improve scientific exchange of knowledge as well as technical co-operation between research institution with similar interest and objectives.

  3. DST PROJECT ON HEALTH STATUS OF UN-ORGANISED SECTOR WORKERS FROM WEAKER SECTION OF SOCIETY • Trades Covered : Brick Kiln, Stone Crushing, Construction & Transport • Workers examined : 2526 • Factories covered : 85 • Free treatment given : 160 workers

  4. FAMILY PLANNING WORK (1979) The institution started the first Family Welfare Centre in this area in 1979. It has many innovative ideas to its credit. The performance had reach all time high in 1983-84 - 239 % of target. The first laparoscopic camp in Pune area was help by our Family Welfare Centre and we are instrumental in popularizing it for last 8 years. The Government of India sanctioned the Infrastructure and Post Partum Centre. The main thrust now is on population education in F. P. Nutrition, School Health M.C.H. activities. The Immunization Programme is one of the best managed activities.

  5. Prevention of Industrial Hand Injuries • The Lokmanya Medical Research Centre has done pioneering work in Prevention of Industrial Hand Injuries by workers education on shop floor. • More than 45,000 workers have been exposed to education material like posters, pamphlets, booklets, slide shows etc. • The impact of two-way safety education was studied and it is established that this greatly reduced the occurrence of Hand Injuries. • Research papers were presented at Bombay, Singapore, Vienna, Manila and Finland in International Conferences

AIDS Awareness Project 1996-98 • The government of Maharashtra sanctioned the AIDS Awareness for industrial workers which was successfully implemented with the help of trained peer group leaders. • No. of factories participated 24 • No. of industrial workers participated 183 • No. of health exhibition arranged 18 • No. of training workshops held 06 • Health education material like Booklet, Pamphlet, brochure, slides, video, wall posters, exhibition charts were developed for free distribution

  20. Yoga project 1999-2002 • Extra Mural Project sponsored by Indian System of Homeopathy and Medicine,Govt. of India • “Role of Yogic Practices in the Management of Patients with chronic backache problems with particular reference activity related efficiency”

  21. OBJECTIVE • To investigate various determinants in patients with chronic backache problems who are conservatively and or surgically treated and to assess the impact of Yogic practices and approaches on activity related efficiency.
