  1. IT for ID 01.12.03

  2. Deliverables • ILE platform • courseware • exemplars • video taped lessons

  3. Results • Impact on schools (3.1) • Impact on students (3.2) • Impact on teachers (3.3) • Facilitating factors (3.1-3.3) • Constraining factors (3.1-3.3) • Dissemination strategies (4.2)

  4. Impact on students for example Students enjoyed learning with computers • I have no computer at home but I would very much like to have a computer at home. • I like the story of the Witch on the ILE. • The software is very nice and colourful. • I like the exercises and the games – It helps me to learn English. • I like tasting real food when we did the lesson on “Tasting Things”– it was more fun. • Now that the story is on the computer, I can come any time to read it again. • ……

  5. Impact on students for example

  6. Impact on students for example For the Math class (3A), an increase of 5.7 marks was recorded, together with a decrease in standard deviation. The increase in mark and decrease in standard deviation was more obvious for the Lower Ability Group (LAG) students (+13.8, -6.4). This is a good indication that the teaching strategies of “Online within Class Ability Group Approach” worked well for this cohort in this particular situation. The LAG students had more chances to develop their optimum potential when learning with a computer.

  7. Impact on students for example For the English class (3D), an increase of overall mean (+5.1) was recorded together with an increase in standard deviation (+2.1). This observation was constant for all ability groups when data were analyzed by ability grouping. This indicated that the strategy of “Extended Learning Opportunity Approach” was an effective strategy, although it did not help to “eliminate” individual differences.

  8. ILE is open and flexible • structured or flexible • teacher centered or student centered • academic achievement or motivational orientation • single subject or multiple subjects • single strategy or multiple strategies • teacher based or school based • personal or shared philosophy • emic or etic

  9. Today, we observe a second order change in the school • Project philosophy internalized • Teaching strategies developed • Multimedia courseware produced • School culture changed

  10. Tomorrow, we shall make it a second order change in education • Teachers • Schools • School organization bodies • CDI • HKIEd Work together

  11. The ITID ripple

  12. Turn ripple to tide. Don’t let it die! • Every ripple has a story • From small start to big achievement • HKAT may lead you to nowhere and longitudinal study may be a waste of time • Action research is the key to teacher empowerment • Action research on action research will show you the magic
