  1. Call:2016 - 2016-1-IT02-KA204-024381KA2 - Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices-Strategic Partnerships for adult education Pilot training course on multifunctional farmers' educative role AGRITOURISM Dr Antonietta Stinga Malta, 14 – 18 May 2018

  2. Agritourism is a simple form of hospitality offered by the farmers Legislation on Agritourism and Rural Tourism are in the hand of the States. Therefore, a special European regulation on Agritourism doesn’t exist. However, special references in the legislation of European Union can be found.

  3. Theyconcern: Quality and origin of products with severalregulations on certification of processes and origin, foodsafety, guarantee for consumers. Promotion of diversification of farmers’ activities especiallythrough the funds of the Rural Development Program launched by the 2° Pilar of the CAP. Protection of landscape and nature with special regulation on protectedareas, suchas the sitesincluded in the“Nature 2000 network”.

  4. In Italy, Agritourism has been developed, since 1980, offering a wide range of service and many comforts, while try to remain coherent with the connection to the farming activity.

  5. Agritourism activities, in Italy, are: • Hospitality in rooms, apartments, open air spaces.

  6. Meal prepared mainly with the farm’s products and typical of the area.

  7. Recreational, cultural, educational, social, sport and wellness

  8. REGIONAL LEGISLATION IN Emilia Romagna The regionallegislationestablishes the basicframework for agritourism, the differentactivitiesincluded: Prevalence of agriculturalactivity over tourism, in terms of income or time spent for. Use of the existing building. Use of localproducts for meals. A special professionalcoursehasbeen set for farmerswhointend to carry out the activity of agritourism

  9. SPORTS AND OTHER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES Landscape and territory are the mainresources of ruralareas. Isimportantthatfarmersoffer the opportunity to theirguests to make the most of them.

  10. In the last years, agritourism changed the cultural approach of farmers and tourists, creating a new relationship between rural areas and urban context.

  11. DIDACTIC ACTIVITIES One of the aims of agritourismis to offer the opportunity to haveknowledge of the traditions by approachingthempractically. Manyfarmersmanagingagritourismorganizelaboratories and short training sessions for guests, bothchildren and adults, related to theiractivity. Itisuseful to underline an importantdifference: in ER, an agriturismo can carry out educational activities for itsguests (underline: only for itsguests!) However, if a farm wants to obtain the title of educational farm, the farmer must follow a specific 90-hour regionalcourse.

  12. AGRITOURISM AND SOCIAL SERVICES The potential social function of agriculture can be fulfilled in differentforms of welcoming. Manyepisodesdemonstratedthat farm work can help along the reintegration of disadvantagedpeople. The mainexplanationsconcerns:

  13. The farmers can offer an answer to the needs of welfare of ruralareas. • In theseterritories the public servicescannotmaintaindedicatedstructures for a fewnumber of people. • Farm welcoming can be a goodsolution for: • Daily reception of childrenoffering a nursery service (agri – asilo) • Daily reception of retiredpeople, especiallyif are alone or are havingdifficulties • Reception of people in difficulty (womenvictims of violence, single parents with youngchildren, ex-prisoners, refugees ...).

  14. Precisely for thisreason, weconsideritparticularlyuseful to include the followingcontents in the courses on the farm: • National and regionallawsaboutmultifunctionalagriculture • Normative aspects and trend in progress • Foodeducation and sustainabledevelopment • Basic of communication and territorial marketing • Design and development of the agritourismservicesprojects.

  15. The profession of farmer is transforming into a new one.The new profession includes functions of businessman, grower, teacher, rural councelor … This means that agritourism is ... a profession for young farmers.
