  1. JOURNEY IN BEING

  2. JOURNEY IN BEING:Quest for Realization of Greatest Being Anil Mitra

  3. Aims of the presentation • Paint a picture in broad strokes • Focus on intrinsic worth of the journey and on journey as adventure • Direct interest to the journey website and printed content for finer strokes • Invite communication and collaboration

  4. Outline • What is ‘Journey in Being’? • Who is the journey for? • What are its ways? • What is its scope? • Progress so far. • The future. • An invitation.

  5. What is ‘Journey in Being’? • Began as personal discovery • Grew to discovery and realization for all Being _____________ • Summary—Journey in Being is the Quest for realization of Greatest Being

  6. Who is the journey for? • Community of being—or: • Individuals and civilization (individuals foster civilization; civilization nurtures the individual) _____________ • Summary—Individuals and Civilization are the ‘vehicles’ of the journey

  7. 2.1 (An aside). What is civilization? • Human civilization is the sum of human cultures and artifacts across time and continents • The ground of our being and civilization is in nature • Universal Civilization is the web of civilizations across the universe

  8. What are the ways of the journey? • Ideas or thought interacting with action distinguish higher ‘being’ from matter • Ideation results in knowing • Action results in transformation _____________ • Summary—Ideas and Action arethe ways of the journey

  9. What is the Scope of the journey? • Preliminary development is useful • The next two slides establish that the universe is limitless and that the individual realizes this limitlessness • Though not simple, the argument is intuitive and supplements the formal narratives of the website

  10. 4.1 An excursion in ideas—Being • Limits are of Being, not of its absence • The void is limitless • The universe has no limits— • Its variety, extent, duration has no limit • It has manifestation and identity in acute, diffuse, and absent phases • Individuals realize the limitless manifest form and identity of the universe

  11. 4.2 An excursion in ideas (continued) • Realization is given but engagement enhances efficiency and enjoyment • In limitless form realization is a moment • In limited form realization is an endless journey (the journey has no limit) • It is founded in the apparent limits of our form—especially birth, life, death • Which are gates to the limitless

  12. 4.3 What is the scope of the Journey? • Realization of limitless Being is endless • This has been alluded to in metaphor such as ‘splendor of a thousand suns’ • Which metaphor is infinitesimal against the limitless • But the journey begins with human abilities and disciplines of civilization

  13. 4.4 Scope of the Journey: Summary • The scope of the journey is realization of limitlessness of the universe • However, realization begins with and builds upon cultivation of ability and tradition • Here, and in civilization and its ground—nature—are the places of work and ultimate adventure

  14. Progress so far • The ideas are mature • Transformation, always at beginning, is built with ideas and experiment… • And upon civilization and its disciplines—intrinsic such as yoga and instrumental as in science • System details and ongoing reports of progress are at the journey website

  15. 5.1 (Aside) On Yoga and Science • Yoga is intrinsic to being and includes meditation. Science is instrumental • In Yoga, being here now and realization are dual essentials • Yoga and science—identical at root—are the core disciplines • The use of the terms here is related but not identical to general use

  16. The future • The disciplines are catalysts of growth • Experiments and ideas build on the traditions • Nature-civilization is place of realization • Ability is our final rock on which to rely • We remember that life and death—i.e. our being—are gates to the limitless

  17. Summary of the presentation • Realization of the limitless is given • In limited form realization is endless • Engagement enhances efficiency and enjoyment of realization • Ideas and action are the means • Vehicles are individual and civilization • We rely on idea and action to build upon the disciplines of civilization

  18. An Invitation • I invite communication • I seek collaboration to establish an organization for ideas and action (Road Ahead at the journey site below) • Contact data and details of the journey are at http://www.horizons-2000.org
