  1. 12/21/2018 What is the difference between cement and concrete? — Write.as What is the difference between cement and concrete? In general, the word cement refers to any kind of binder that tightly holds other materials together. Concrete, on the other hand, is a mix of materials such as sand, gravel and small rocks combined with any kind of cement and water. It is then allowed to dry and cure. Basically, the concrete is the stone structure formed after cement and other materials are mixed together. Cement is just one part of the recipe. Cement has been used as a binder for millennia. Nobody knows with certainty who first appeared with the idea to use a cement substance to bind the materials together to make concrete, bricks and other building materials. The process can be traced back to Ancient Macedonia but was more popular during the Roman Empire. The first forms of cement used things like lime and pozzolana, a type of volcanic ash. The Romans were able to produce huge structures like the Pantheon and the Roman aqueducts using this formula. At present, cement comes in two forms: Hydraulic and Non-Hydraulic. Hydraulic cement refers to any cement that uses water to initiate a chemical reaction that hardens the mixture and, when fully formed, creates a water-resistant product. This reaction is independent of the water content of the mixture so that the material hardens even underwater. This makes it a very flexible building material. Most cement used today is hydraulic cement. Non-hydraulic cement uses non-curing materials when exposed to water. While this type is much cheaper than hydraulic cement, the problems of long drying times, coupled with its inability to use in a damp environment, make it a bad choice for most applications. The most common type of modern cement is Portland cement (sometimes referred to as OPC for “Ordinary Portland Cement”). This type of cement is typically made by grinding small rock stones of fused limestone and aluminosilicates into a very fine powder. Fast drying times combined with higher compressive strength compared to other cements make it an excellent choice for use in concrete, mortar, grout, and plasterboard. https://write.as/9ro1pbjxamu39zm8.md 1/2

  2. 12/21/2018 What is the difference between cement and concrete? — Write.as Concrete is a mixture of cement, water, and agglomerates. Agglomerates account for about 60-75% of the mix, and cement and water make up the rest. Agglomerates are usually inert materials such as gravel, crushed stone, sand or recycled concrete. The type of aggregate chosen depends on the application of the concrete. Since the concrete starts as semi-liquid, it has great weatherproofing properties and high strength, its applications in construction are almost endless. The benefits of concrete include its strength, fire safety, low maintenance, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness. In fact, concrete is the most widely used anthropogenic material on earth. It is easy to understand why some people will use the terms cement and concrete alternatively. One is one main ingredient in the other. Know Cement Price list in India:—–> https:/ /bit.ly/2GtWJYp https://write.as/9ro1pbjxamu39zm8.md 2/2
