Trade in higher education services estimated at $30 billion worldwide in 1999 with 1.5 million tertiary-level students studying abroad. The number of mobile students will increase from current 1.8 million to 7.2 million by 2025.

Canadian Education Market • In Canada, most exports of education services currently take place through foreign student enrolment in Canadian institutions. • In 2002, there was an annual in-flow of 68,820 international students and a cumulative stock of 144,664 international students enrolled in post-secondary programs in Canada. • Since 1995, enrolment has increased by 72% in 4 years. • International students contributed $3.6 - $4.4 billion to the Canadian economy in 2002 in terms of tuition fees, ancillary fees and living expenses on a per capita basis of $25,000 to $30,000 per year.
