Psychological Contract • If the terms and conditions of the psychological contract disregarded they produce feelings of reassessment of individual relationship. • When expectations broken they produce more emotional or extreme reactions and produce feelings of disappointments. Broken obligations on the other hand produce feelings of anger and reassessment of individual relationship. • Exchange of Emotions and Recognition. • Informal contract. The terms and conditions are generally not defined well. • Implicitly rather than explicitly understood. • Remains in constant state of change and revision.

  12. Psychological Contract • The psychological contract is characterized not only by expectations but also by ‘Promissory and Reciprocal Obligations’ - Robinson and Rousseau (1994)

Psychological Contract • Unwritten set of expectations and obligations (promissory and reciprocal) operating at all times between every member of the organization and the various managers and others in that organization. • This set always subjective and remains in constant state of change and revision. • It involves exchange of Emotions and Recognition. Like any other economic contract the terms and conditions of Psychological contracts are also being negotiated (some times knowingly; many times unknowingly).
