  1. Numbers 26Second census of the families of Israel in the wilderness “Nevertheless the children of Korah did not die” (v. 11)

  2. The Rebellion of Korah (Numbers 16:1-35) • Korah is joined by Dathan, Abiram, and On, along with 250 leading men of Israel, to challenge the leadership authority of Moses and Aaron (vv. 1-3) • Korah’s family (Ex. 6:16-24 – descendant of Levi; cousin of Moses; had three sons) • Dathan, Abiriam, and On are Reubenites (Reuben was the oldest son of Jacob)

  3. The Rebellion of Korah (Numbers 16:1-35) • Moses accuses them of rebellion against God (vv. 4-15) • They were dissatisfied with God’s way and wanted to go beyond the authorized pattern

  4. The Rebellion of Korah (Numbers 16:1-35) • God punishes Korah, Dathan, and Abiram by swallowing them into the earth (vv. 16-35) • God swallows up their tents – households and goods (v. 32) • Dathan and Abiram’s families stood with them, and died (v. 27) • No mention of Korah’s family standing with him at his tent! • Later we read that “the children of Korah did not die” (26:11) – important detail!

  5. The Rebellion of Korah (Numbers 16:1-35) • Why did they “not die”? • Not standing at the tent with their father! • Most likely a conscious choice on their part – a life-changing choice at a critical time!

  6. Lessons from the Children of Korah • Young people can learn to make important, informed, spiritual decisions • Doing what is right can set one in opposition to family members and friends • Our good decisions can affect much good for future generations

  7. Legacy of the Childrenof Korah • Samuel, the great judge and prophet of Israel (1 Chron. 6:33-37) • Singers, instrument players, doorkeepers (1 Chron. 6:33; 15:16-17; 25:1; 9:19) • Inspired psalms from the “sons [descendants] of Korah”

  8. Psalm 42 Psalm 43 Psalm 44 Psalm 45 Psalm 46 Psalm 47 Psalm 48 Psalm 49 Psalm 84 Psalm 85 Psalm 87 Psalm 88 As the Deer Fairest Lord Jesus Ivory Palaces Revive Us Again I Know the Lord Will Make a Way for Me Psalms of theSons of Korah

  9. Who Will YOU Follow? For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You! (Psa. 84:10-12 – sons of Korah)
