  3. Societal Change • What does this image speak to you? • How is this representative of Societal change? • What is its significance? • What does this allude to?

  4. Societal Change • How does this appeal to Ethos? • How does this appeal to Pathos? • How does this appeal to Logos?

  5. Societal Change • What does this image speak to you? To me this image represents a different time. It illustrates a different type of person. Its purpose is to make the viewer think about there own life, and to think of how much we’ve changed as a people; and to call upon us to examine our own selves. What is so different about people of this generation? How where they different? What led them to become, as Tom Brokaw phrased it in his bestselling book “The Greatest Generation”?

  6. Societal Change • How is this representative of Societal Change? This image is very indicative in that it shows us a product of a past time. It shows someone from a time that took pride in oneself, and a dedication to hard work. What is significant about this image? This image has much significance in what it represents. It speaks for an entire generation. A generation of hard-working, self determined, steadfast individuals who, even in advanced age, maintain there characters and traditions.

  7. Societal Change • What does this allude to? This image alludes its viewer to a different era, and a different society. The subject of the photo is clearly a well-kept, proud, and significantly older person, that’s representative of the appropriately named “Greatest Generation.” describing the generation born from 1920-1929. How does this appeal to Ethos (Ethics)? This image is a great example of ethics. Ethics, are commonly defined as ones set of values: and for the Greatest Generation; they were everything. Their lives revolved around a constant sense of loyalty to their Churches, Jobs, and country. They embodied sound ethical values.

  8. Societal Change • How does this appeal to Logos (logic)? The term logic could be indicative of many different things, and many different view points. However, logic, in one sense of the word, could be defined as necessity or common sense. This image is representative of exactly that rhetoric; Logic. The Great Generation was a people of extraordinary simple logic. “If its broke; fix it, if not leave it be.” This generation is defined as surviving the Great Depression and WWII, only to returning as the most productive and innovative generation in history.

  9. Societal Change • How Does this appeal to Pathos(Emotions)? This image, particularly to me, appeals greatly to my emotions. It shows the aging, but still dedicated and strong character of a strong people. A dying people, a ‘disappearing breed’ if you will. People today aren’t the same type of people as the people of the greatest Generation. They don’t have the same type of attitude towards hard work or a strong sense of loyalty to anything. It should sadden us all that the generation that made life as good as it is for us, is slowly, but surly, disappearing. These are our Grandparents generation, we should revere and honor them. They’re the reason this is the Greatest nation on earth through their hard work. This image strongly conjures those emotions because of its representation.
