  9. Not to be confused with adverbs • Adverbs are words that usually describe verbs. They will often end in -ly • The boy ran quickly • The slug crawled slowly • Sometimes adverbs also describe adjectives • The night was completely dark. • Susie May is a very pretty girl.

  10. Sentence Ladder • Student number 1 writes a two word sentence. (Noun + verb) • Next Student adds an adjective to the sentence. • Next Student adds an adjective, article, or adverb. • Etc, etc, etc • Each time the paper is passed, students must re-write the sentence and include their new word.
