  1. 一天紀曉嵐進宮要面聖，被一位太監攔著。那太監素知紀曉嵐饒富機智奇才，便央求他說個故事否則不讓他過去。紀曉嵐沒辦法只好說道：「從前有一個太監」，說到這裡頓了一下卻不說了。太監等了半晌忍不住問道：「下面呢？」這時紀曉嵐笑了笑說： 「下面沒有了。」太監紅了臉訕訕的讓紀曉嵐過了去。

  2. 有位自命不凡的青年文人拿著自己的大作去請紀先生批閱紀公提筆在篇後批著:『此文有雙錘擂鼓之聲』那位青年作家洋洋得意，以這批語逢人便告有人詢問紀公:『為何要將一篇不通的文章加上這麼好的評語呢?』紀公大笑道:『你們根本不懂得這評語的意思,一個錘擊鼓,所發出的聲音是:通!通!通!雙錘擊鼓時,鼓聲是不通!不通!不通!.... 』
