  1. What Factors You Must Consider Before Buying a Heavy-Duty Notebook? As the name suggests, the rugged laptop survives the extremes of ruggedness. Whether itis being rained on or being dropped down to six feet depth to a hard surface or being worked through freezing or boiling temperatures, a rugged device survives all that. Heavy duty laptops are designed to be used in fields, factory floors, forests or in the war zone. Literally, the rugged devices can also be really heavy for your pockets too. So, if you are still determined to buy this super sturdy any weather any surface any temperature laptops, you must go through the following factors The MIL-STD 810G Standard - These are series of tests that the rugged notebooks have to comply with to be considered to be used as an equipment in a military setting by US Department of Defense. The MIL-STD 810G standard consists of nearly 30 laboratory tests ranging from weather to physical forces. Though these compliances are not certified by any independent agency you can use it as a checklist for your purchase of heavy-duty notebook. IP Ratings - IP ratings or Ingress Protection ratings is a numerical value given to the ability of the laptop to prevent the solids or liquids from entering inside. The first digit after the “IP” denotes safety against solids, on a scale of 0 to 6, where 6 represents the complete protection from dust and sand. The second digit measures the ability of protection against liquid, on a scale of 0 to 9. The IP ratings varies according to how well the ports- USB ports and HDMI ports are sealed. Chassis - Chassis defines the sturdy look of a heavy-duty notebook. Magnesium or magnesium aluminum alloys with rubberized bumpers are used for chassis of a rugged device. Additional built-ins - Another deciding factor of rugged devices are features like RS232 serial ports, for machines used in factories where RS-232 ports are used for data collection equipment. Similarly ,multiple wireless communication options like mobile -broadband SIM card slots to go online whenever you are away from Wi-Fi is another feature. Jolt resistant SSDs (Solid state Drives) is an add-on for a heavy-duty laptop. Display Screens - A rugged display must have an extra bright display because of its usability in overexposed sunlight. The display screens must also have crack or shatterproof reinforced glasses. Touch screens and touch pads -On a heavy-duty laptop, touch screens use the resistive touch screen technology. The normal touch screens use the capacitive technology which may not work out for the rugged devices because with this technology the touch screens would be insensitive to fingers with gloves on. Similarly, the spill – resistant keyboards are a must for rugged laptops due to the exposure these devices subjected to. Hope the above tips would be useful for you to decide the best laptop among the lot.
