  1. WASS EXPRESS TUTORIAL Web Access Security System

  2. What Is WASS? • WASS stands for web access security system. The purpose of WASS is to provide secure access to the HUD systems environment by their trusted business partners and internal HUD users. Currently, WASS provides access to over 15 systems for external users and over 20 systems for internal users.

  3. How Does WASS Relate to You? • There are over 57,000 users who access HUD systems annually. Most WASS users are regular USERS. A regular USER is a user who has a role and actions assigned to them by their COORDINATOR. A COORDINATOR represents one or more of HUD’s business partners and is a user whose role is to ensure system security and ensure that users are properly assigned system privileges.

  4. How Do I Get Access to WASS and the HUD Systems? • To access WASS you must first be a registered user. Depending on whether you are an internal HUD user or an external HUD user your registration option will vary. For external users, to register go to the REAC (Real Estate Assessment Center) homepage at the following URL: http://www.hud.gov/offices/reac/online/reasyst.cfm

  5. The web page should look like the the screen below:

  6. To begin external user registration, click the “Online Registration” button.

  7. On this screen you will see three different registration forms. The form you pick to register will depend on which housing organization system you need access to. Coordinators only use the “Public Housing Agency” and “Multifamily Housing Entity” form to register. The three different forms external users can use to register are displayed on the next slides.

  8. Multifamily Housing Entity Registration Form

  9. Public Housing Agency Registration Form

  10. Independent User Registration Form

  11. Registrations are processed over night and Coordinator user id’s normally take 7 to 10 business days to process and are received by mail. Regular user id’s are also generated over night and can be obtained from your Coordinator the next business day. • Internal/Intranet Users (HUD employees and contractors who access HUD systems through HUD’s intranet), must obtain their user ID from the ADP Security Office rather than the Online Registration available on the Internet. After obtaining your user id you need to contact your subsystem administrator for access to WASS. Note to all applicants: the success of your registration depends on the accuracy of your registration information.

  12. How Do I Use WASS to Access HUD Systems? • Once you have registered and have a received a user id and password (your default password will be “password”) you can now access HUD systems through WASS. External users should go to the REAC homepage to login, here is the URL again: http://www.hud.gov/offices/reac/online/reasyst.cfm Internal users should go to this URL to login: https://hudapps.hud.gov/NASApp/wass/login/login_page.jsp

  13. EXTERNAL USER LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS For external users, you will notice this is the same web page you used to register for your user id and password. Above the “Online Registration” button you will see a “LOG IN” button. Click on this button to bring up the login prompt.

  14. EXTERNAL USER LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS cont… • After clicking on the button you will see a prompt to enter your user id and password. • Enter your your user id and password. Since you are an external user, your user id will begin with an M or I.

  15. INTERNAL USER LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS For internal users, you will see this page when go to log in. To login enter your user id and password in the text boxes and click “Login”. Since you are an internal user, your user id will begin with an H or C.

  16. For either an external or internal user, once you have entered your user id and password and have successfully authenticated. You will see a screen like this one below:

  17. Now That I Have Accessed WASS, What Systems and Privileges Do I Have? • As a user of WASS and HUD systems you only need to know the roles and actions that affect you directly. Roles are functional positions that are used to categorize USERS and actions define what rights and privileges USERS can do in terms of one or more systems. Your COORDINATOR assigns the roles and actions to you. These roles and actions will determine what systems you have access to and what privileges you have as a user.

  18. The systems and privileges you are assigned will be displayed when you login. By looking at that page below you can see the Systems and Privileges available under the “Systems” heading and “System Administration” heading.

  19. What if I run into trouble accessing or using WASS? • If you have any trouble accessing a particular system or encounter an problems while using a system you should contact the TAC (Technical Assistance Center). They are your first line of support should you encounter any trouble accessing WASS and HUD systems. The TAC can be contacted by phone or email.

  20. Information for contacting the TAC is below: Phone: 1-888-245-4860 To email the TAC select the “Contact us” link on the REAC Online web page here is the URL again: http://www.hud.gov/offices/reac/online/reasyst.cfm
