  3. The Early Assessment Program (EAP) • Giving students an early signal of college readiness • Collaborating with the high school community • Providing 12th grade interventions

  4. Components of EAP • 11th grade testing • Supplemental high school preparation • Teacher/administrator professional development • Parent/family communication • Preservice teacher preparation

  5. What’s on the test?

Test Determinations • Students are identified as • Ready for CSU college-level courses in English or mathematics • Not yet demonstrating readiness… • Conditionally Ready in English or mathematics. -Students must fulfill requirements in 12th grade in order to maintain exemption from placement testing. • Students whose results indicate readiness are exempted from placement exams • English Placement Test (EPT) • Entry Level Math Exam (ELM)

  7. Test Results • Students whose results indicate readiness are exempted from the CSU Placement Test (EPT & ELM) and are eligible to enter credit bearing courses • At participating community colleges, students are eligible to enter transfer-level courses

Conditionally Ready – English (beginning 2012-2013) Completion of an approved senior English course with a grade of C or better: • Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC course) • AP English Language and Composition • AP English Literature and Composition • International Baccalaureate (IB) English • Weighted Honors English course (indicated on UC doorways with a )

  9. Conditionally Ready-Math Completion of an approved senior English course with a grade of C or better: -Trigonometry and Math Analysis -Pre-Calculus -Calculus -AP Calculus AB -AP Calculus BC -AP Statistics -AP Physics -ALEKS online learning course

  10. 11th Grade Testing: Status Reports • EAP results appear on the lower left corner of the second page of the STAR Student Reports that are mailed home in August. • Students are referred to a website for additional advising.

English Proficiency SAT Critical Reading: 500 or above SAT Writing Skills: ACT English test: 22 or above AP English: 3 or above A “C” or better in a community college English course that satisfies the general education requirement in English composition (English 1A). A status of READY (or CONDITIONALLY READY) on the CSU’s Early Assessment in English A passing score on the CSU’s English Placement Test (EPT)

Mathematics Proficiency SAT Reasoning Test : 550 or above SAT Subject Test (IC or IIC): 550 or above ACT Mathematics test: 23 or above AP Calculus or Statistics: 3 or above A “C” or better in a community college mathematics course that satisfies the quantitative reasoning requirement (GE requirement B-4). A status of READY (or CONDITIONALLY READY) on the CSU’s Early Assessment in Mathematics A passing score on the CSU’s Entry Level Mathematics examination (ELM)

English-Language Arts Supplemental High School Preparation • Expository Reading and Writing Course(ERWC) for students in grades 11 and/or 12 • Emphasizes in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing • Approved to fulfill the “b” English requirement of the UC and CSU “a-g” college entrance requirements • Intended for broad usage (not as an honors or remedial course and not necessarily tied to EAP results)
