Michelangelo was born on March 6, 1475

And died on February 18, 1564.

He was born in a small town named Caprese, near

Arezzo, Tuscany. But was actually raised in Florence.

When Michelangelo was only 6 his mother died,

Leaving his father to raise him.

He started painting and carving as a young boy.

He showed no interest in regular schooling.

Statue of David

Created between 1501 and 1504.

It is a 17 foot statue of a male standing nude. The statue represents the biblical hero of David.

Sistine Chapel ceiling

Created by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. The ceiling shows stories from the bible, such as creation of Adam, Adam and Eve in the garden, and , Many other great stories. It is about 131 feet long and 43 feet wide.

-Michelangelo did a lot for the Renaissance. He influenced many other great artist like Rafael. He influenced the Renaissance by painting and sculpting human figures in life-like poses. And by creating life-like paintings that were 3D of that time.
